Meet Aleks...
Aleks was born on December 8th, 2020 at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in Florida. Within 23 minutes of his birth he was placed on ECMO. He would remain on ECMO for 23 days.
During this time he was diagnosed with semilobar holoprosencephaly, laryngomalacia and cerebral palsy. He spent 9 months at JHACH before being discharged.
Unfortunately his CDH story does not end there… Within one week of returning home to North Carolina Aleks was be re-hospitalized with infections that would nearly cost him his life. He remained hospitalized for 4 months. In July of this year Aleks was re-hospitalized again, this time with a bowel obstruction caused by scar tissue from his hernia repair. He would remain in the hospital battling this obstruction, surgery, a bacterial infection and feeding intolerance for more than 25 days.
Thanks to the support of our generous donors we were able to provide Alek’s mom a re-hospitalization grant to help relieve some of the financial strain she was under. We are thankful to be able to help her get back to doing what is most important, caring and advocating for her beautiful boy.
